Bathtub Drain Diagram

Our bathtub has completely stopped draining water out of it, and someone tried to take a shower in it and its now full of water, im sure the problem isn't a hindrance, but a problem with the cap, now how the hell do i fix this issue is an old bathtub, one without the expert and all this is just a little knob to open and close the cap with a long metal rod and a spring, all I see are patterns pop up stoppers and things, but thats not the kind I have, any suggestions?
