Bathtubs For The Elderly

Bathtubs For The ElderlyAny suggestions to help convert a tub to a shower of Grandma?

My grandmother is elderly and has difficulty in and the intensification of the tub ... so much so she came back just a sponge bath from her well as she gave up and out of the tub. I need a cost effective solution. The problem is the tub is only 32 inches wide ... is the widest part of a wall in her bathroom. The showers are not that small. I watched the tub conversion kits, but they do not install in Kentucky. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

You've already got good answers, but I'll throw a couple more ideas on the job.

Grab bars are a must! We have installed two showers for my mother. This is a DIY project that can be easily done in a few time steps.

Contact your Department of Aging. She may be qualified to help them through change. Also check with his insurance. If she receives a pension of veterans, the VA can also help. The paperwork is usually less than the Department of Aging, but any help is good.

They all walk ups bathrooms are expensive, but you have the money for it, they are beautiful! They can be used as a shower or soaking tub. But those who require professional installation. Get several estimates from several different people.

And know that when pulling a bath, you'll probably find problems. And while the wall is open, you might as well have the plumbing under the tub / shower replaced if it is an old house. just one less place to spring a leak later.

You can use a pre-fabricated shower, but they are also pots that can be customized for different sizes. They even make membranes that can be worn under the flight of cement pan that you made to fit your space and tiles.

Grab bars, a bath chair, shower rod and shower curtain and hand often solve the problem provided that the material above the bath is a water proof it should be any way.

Pictures might help us give you better ideas. Once we see what you're dealing with, we can give you more solutions.

When my mother began to have pain in his early 80s as I was getting heavy bars installed on the interior wall of the tub surround and purchased what is called a transfer seat for the bath " to put in the bath. It is a very solid bench plastic with rubber feet to fit in the width of the tub and grab bars on the side and a portion which extends over the edge of the bath Then all she had to do was sit down and lift her legs over, grasping the bars for balance. We installed a shower hose, hand sprayer so that it can hold in his hand and Shower off. It worked very well for her and she was not afraid to bathe alone anymore. Most major pharmacies and medical supply places sell these items.

The easiest thing you do is take the tub out and go to a big box home and get a 24 "shower - use the existing drain, you can raise the recipient 2-3" on the ground using a dry concrete mix so there is no flooding in the bathroom --- if the valves are on the water wall and the showerhead on the wall is better for you --- you can build a half wall with a bench or chair so that your grandmother can sit for a shower and get one of those shower heads hand, then you do not need to worry of a curtain - keep the tub to re-install when needed --- --- good luck

This is a case where I recommend calling a professional Remodeler. I remodeled bathrooms, and can tell you that there are many things that can go wrong if you do not know exactly what you are doing. My advice would be to post a help wanted ad on Craigs list and ask for references.

When my father we need assistance bathing himself in a chair ... e.
