What is the best way to repair a crack in a fiberglass bathtub? The crack is about 8 inches long and I would be able to fix it without replacing it. If this is not possible, nobody knows a good place to buy a new shower / tub and cheaply?
I have replaced and repaired many of these tanks, there is little litterly not to smoke. I think people have the idea that there is fiberglass, it stinks, but it's just not the case.
Lets get on with it.
Go to Home Depot. They have kits finish, different colors now. They cost $ 35.00 with tax. You will need a repair kit, fiberglass too, it comes with sandpaper and other goodies.
Get a mask particles. Take your time and be patient. This is where you make your mistakes, speed up the work. This is where the job is going down tubes.
Take your time to mix everything as you use it, fill the gaps properly, ensure that all the sand you well and get the cracks. Then fill the crack, then resand and filling. Be sure to let dry before filling more. Let everything dry.
For a nice smooth finish, sand all very good. If you can get a palm sander with 220 grit and be very careful, without much pressure sand everywhere evernly carefully. Then gently apply the coating, like making love.
The most important thing, let it dry, air on the area you work, get a fan, wearing a mask. Having someone with you or watching you at any time.
I made dozens of the worst for the best just for color, they all come out fine. Admittedly, this is a work, but worth it.

If you are the handyman "Do it yourself" type, you can buy kits with fiberglass resin and pigment are mixed according to the color match type stuff. If you do, follow all safety instructions. fumes are caustic and horrific.
