Thammaraja king's son, who occupied the throne of Thailand on the Burma waiting period of nine years Naresuan was taken hostage in Burma after the fall of Ayutthaya. Naturally anxious to maintain control at home, Thai leaders felt compelled to regulate the conduct of trade. Subsequently, the Treasury has collected taxes on Thai imports and legally held options on all foreign cargo they could buy cheap and then sell at a profit. The Crown has also controlled some export commodities such as rice, ivory, skins and sandalwood.
