A solar outdoor shower is a Great Weekend DIY Project Would you like a shower in your garden? Why not have a solar shower in the outdoors? These can be as simple or as complex as you want, from a long length of flexible black pipe water for a shower stall with elegant adequate drainage, privacy and terrace to keep your feet clean, while in drying.
Let's look at a simple outdoor solar shower in a typical courtyard, perhaps near a pool or spa, which could both share the provisions for solar hot water with shower.
The most important outdoor solar shower is the provision of adequate drainage. In some areas, you may be able to have a sump or simply take the dirty water on the nearest bed of flowers. Others may require a more elaborate system that drains into the sewer or septic tank. You will be responsible for following rules apply regardless of your location.
The design of your outdoor solar shower depends on other criteria:
Privacy. Would you be out of sight? If yes, then you must find a quiet place, away from windows upstairs to your solar-heated shower.
The supply of water. You may find that your shower water pressure is affected by its distance from the mains. If you find this is the case, you can increase the flow shower by fitting a hot water cylinder or old tank above the shower.
. Solar energy (heating pipe Sun, cisterns or both) will get adequate exposure to the sun for most of the day. Enough hot water for showers should be available in the next 15 minutes, but the time may be adversely affected by shade or poor positioning of direct sunlight.
Purpose. How do you plan to use solar hot shower? After a swim, perhaps? To rinse after sunbathing before entering the house? Design your shower will depend on how much you want to use.
Debris. The leaves can accumulate in the shower, and it is a chore to remove it each time you want to use. Try covering it with a wooden lid or similar device when not in use, and if possible to locate the shower away from trees.
Between 9 and 16 square feet is a good size for an outdoor solar shower, and will build on deck about a foot above the ground to allow the installation of a simple box made of galvanized steel drainage in the shower to take away the dirty water to the sump or drainage system other than you have provided.
It's a good idea to build the deck a few feet to the shower door, to facilitate the towel after and keep your feet clean. Softwood pressure treated 4x4 posts can be used at each corner of the shower, joined by side panels from virtually anything you want - plywood, boards, cedar shingles are the material of choice.
You will find the solar system very easy to do. The simplest device is a shower head attached to a long garden hose coiled in the sun. A more formal agreement, however, continue to water hose reels mounted on a shelf above the shower and sun exposure. If you need more hot water you can use an old water tank or hot water cylinder in the tube solar heating, but it should be higher than the shower to give you enough pressure.
In hot weather, you may need to include a mixer, for mixing hot and cold water for a shower and comfortable.
